Boat Scrapping & Disposal

Where possible, we are always happy to help owners find a new home for their boat through resale, reuse or donation. Scrapping is a last resort, and we understand this can be a difficult decision.

When dismantling is the only realistic option, Deben Boatyard provides a service that is safe, straightforward and handled with care. All boats are manually dismantled on site, and all waste materials are removed by licensed waste carriers and taken to authorised disposal facilities, ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations.

What We Scrap

  • Leisure and pleasure craft only

  • Typically 20ft–50ft

  • Sailing yachts, motorboats, small cruisers

  • Boats ashore or afloat (lifting by arrangement)

How the Process Works

  1. Written Quotation

We provide a quotation that covers the whole works from lifting to waste removal, giving you price certainty and piece of mind.

  2. Owner authorisation
We confirm ownership and written authority to dismantle the vessel.

  3. Preparation & stripping
Fuels, oils, batteries and reusable components are removed safely.

  4. Manual dismantling
The hull is carefully cut up using hand tools and light mechanical equipment.

  5. Licensed waste removal
All waste materials (including GRP/fibreglass) are collected promptly by licensed waste carriers and taken to authorised facilities.

  6. Documentation provided
Full waste transfer documentation available for peace of mind.

Environmental Responsibility

We will ensure as many parts of your boat as possible are re-used or recycled.

Fibreglass (GRP) boats cannot be recycled through normal household routes. Our service ensures vessels are dismantled responsibly and disposed of through approved commercial waste channels, protecting the river, shoreline and surrounding environment
